The practice of drawing up horoscopes to predict the future arose around the 5th century BC e. in Mesopotamia, initiating the tradition of horoscopic astrology, and finally the doctrine of horoscopic astrology was formed in the II — I centuries BC e. in Hellenistic Egypt with the advent of the concept of houses of the horoscope. Horoscopic astrology supplanted an earlier form of astrology - the astrology of omens, in which, after observing a certain phenomenon in the sky, the priests coped with the records of what was happening before with the same phenomena and made a forecast for this case on the basis of this information. A classic example of such a technique is the cuneiform text of Enuma Anu Enlil, dated to the 2nd millennium BC e.
